An Advent Liturgy: Day 17

An Advent Liturgy: Day 17

Micah 5 : 1 – 2

Mobilise! Marshal your troops!
The enemy is laying siege to Jerusalem.
They will strike Israel’s leader
in the face with a rod.

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
are only a small village among all the people of Judah.
Yet a ruler of Israel,
whose origins are in the distant past,
will come from you on my behalf.

You use the small
to bless the many
You use the weak
to save the strong

You use the humble
to shame the wise
And you use us
to help the world

And though the enemy may try
to take a stand
surrounding
confounding
destroying

We have a saviour
Promised long ago
Who will never abandon us

And whose love has already saved us.

Amen
